Can You Return to a Previous Module on the Digital SAT? The Exact Rules

TL;DR: Once you submit a module on the Digital SAT, you cannot return to it — the previous module's questions are gone and your answers are locked. Within an active module, you can freely flag, skip, change answers, and use the review screen at the end. The flag-and-return option only lives inside the current module.

The pattern is consistent: full freedom inside a module, hard wall at every module boundary.

How the in-module review screen works

When you reach the last question of a module — or whenever you tap the navigation button at the bottom of the screen — Bluebook opens a review screen. It shows a numbered grid for all 27 (R&W) or 22 (Math) questions, with status icons indicating:

Answered (filled circle)
Unanswered (empty)
Flagged for review (small flag icon, regardless of answered status)

Click any number to jump to that question. Change your answer, add or remove a flag, then either keep navigating, return to the review screen, or hit Submit. You can revisit a question as many times as you want until the module ends.

What "submit" actually does

The Submit button on the module review screen does two things atomically:

Locks every answer in the current module.
Advances Bluebook to the next module (or to the break, or to the end-of-test screen).

There is no "are you sure?" undo that lets you back out after confirming. There is a confirmation prompt before the submission lands, so you have one chance to cancel and keep working. Once you confirm, the module is gone.

What happens if you accidentally submit early

You cannot un-submit. The remaining time on Module 1's clock is forfeited — Module 2 starts with its own fresh 32 or 35-minute timer, not with the time you saved. If you submit with 8 minutes left on Module 1, those 8 minutes evaporate.

Practical implication: never click Submit until you have used the review screen to confirm every question is answered and reviewed every flag. Even a 30-second double-check is worth it.

How this differs from the paper SAT

On the legacy paper SAT, you could flip between any section's pages during that section's time. The Digital SAT removes cross-section navigation entirely and bounds review to one module at a time. The trade-off:

You lose the ability to "come back later" across sections.
You gain a digital flag system that is faster than circling questions in a booklet, plus a review grid that surfaces unanswered items automatically.

For most students, the in-module review screen is a net upgrade. The cost is that you must commit to a module before moving on.

Strategy implications

Build end-of-module review time. Plan to finish the last question with 2–4 minutes left on the clock so you can sweep flagged questions before submitting.

Use the flag aggressively. Flagging is free. Flag any question that took longer than your target pace or any answer choice you were not 90% sure about.

Treat each section as a one-way door. Once R&W is submitted, Math begins. You will not see R&W again — including the review screen.

FAQ

What happens if I run out of time before submitting?

Bluebook auto-submits the module the moment its timer hits zero. Whatever answers you have entered are locked in. Unanswered questions are scored as zero. There is no grace period and no way to keep working past time.

Can I go back to a flagged question?

Yes — but only while the module is still active. The review screen at the end of each module lists every flagged and unanswered question. Once you submit the module, those flags and the questions themselves are inaccessible.

Can I see Module 1 questions during Module 2?

No. Module 1 is permanently closed the moment Module 2 begins. Bluebook does not display Module 1 questions, your Module 1 answers, or even the review screen from Module 1 during Module 2.

Does Bluebook auto-submit when time expires?

Yes. When the module timer reaches zero, Bluebook submits the module automatically and advances. You do not have to click anything. This is also how the test ends if you run out of time on Math Module 2.
